Feline Profile, Character and Care
The Moggie Cat
 |
A Moggie is a cat or kitten that does not belong to any recognised
breed. The non-pedigree domestic cat (Moggie) is the most popular
house pet today.
Most Moggies are shorthaired and come in every imaginable variety
of coat and colour. Many are tabbies. Solid colours like black,
white, ginger and blue are also common.
|
|
|
Apart from colour and coat, Moggies differ much less from each
other than pure breeds do. Most have a moderate build.
Wedge-shaped heads and flattened faces are unusual in a Moggie but
can appear if the recent family tree of one of the parents
includes a cat with Siamese or Persian genes.
Moggies are wonderful companions and love being part of a
family. They can adapt to a life indoors but will make the most of
any freedom offered as they enjoy hunting for small rodents and
birds. Even when well fed, most Moggies will persist in bringing
hunting trophies home!
With proper care Moggies should live a long life. The typical
Moggie, if chosen carefully, is a beautiful, intelligent, playful,
low-maintenance companion with an independent streak. It will be a
devoted and loving member of your household.
Advantages of a Moggie
-
Huge selection of cats or kittens available in
every possible colour, pattern and fur length.
-
You will not need to contact a breeder as
kittens/cats can be obtained from animal shelters or private
homes.
-
They are generally healthy and long-lived.
-
Non fussy eaters.
-
Will give you just as much love and attention
as a pedigree, maybe even more.
-
Many cat shows offer a non-pedigree section for
you to show your Moggie.
