The Dossow Cat

Dossow Cat

The Dossow cats are a unique breed of cat that will make an excellent pet for people looking for a fairly exotic, light shedding, hypoallergenic cat. Bred to be the best of all the cat world. These cats are for people who love cats but have a problem to cat hair allergies and those who don't like a bald cat. Yes, these cats have hair and are very Hypo-allergenic.

This new breed called the "Dossow", this is not the same cat as the Donskoy or Savannah. This is a very different breeds and should not be confused with the others. Donskoys and Peterbald were specially bred to be hairless cat for hairless cat fanciers, and they have become fairly popular pets among people who have allergies to cat dander. While the Dossow is breed to be a hair curling gene and the Donskoy to be a hair releasing gene which goes bald by 2 yrs old. The Don sphynx used to be the only breed of this type of exotic cats in Russia's existence; now, there are several other types, such as the Peterbald, Bramble, Ukrainian Levkoy and now the Dossow. Which are breeds made from the same Rusian hairless gene as the Don Sphynx {Donskoy}, only they are bred with different outcrosses to be different looking types of cats. All Russian hairless breeds thrive on a simple, well-balanced raw or cooked cat diet, dry high fiber and protein dry diet. Overall, the Dossow is a fascinating new American breed that is perfect for someone looking for something hypoallergenic and a little more exotic with a more wild look than the average domestic cat breed.

Most Dossow cats are very outgoing and love to have affection 99% of the time. They are very smart and will teach you a few thing too. When born some have a little rat-like appearance with their very large ears, compact heavy bodies and big paw pads. They have surprisingly long toes and some have extra toes like little thumbs that are used to hold things like your hands. The Dossow cat loves to hug you tight with their long arms. also They have a mildly wild look about them, so be prepare for more than a few breed questions from inquisitive visitors.

The specific feature of this breed is a hair curling gene caused by spontaneous dominant mutation. There can be a bald one born from time to time form a hormonolized balding gene that can carry within the breed, but these types are not used in our breeding program. We have found the balder the breeder, the more unhealthy the cat becomes for reproduction of future litters. The Dossow should have a wire hair feel to their fur or a smooth velour type feeling. These kittens are born with a normal hair coat and by the age of 3 weeks old their hair type starts to change. This change can take up to 2 yrs to get the their full hair type as they will be at adult age. Some Dossows are born polydactyl feet too. We have taken the Elegance of the Peterbald, the Sprit and caring of the Donskoy, the Appreciation of the American Polydactal and the Activeness of the Savannah all in one; to make a great breed of exotic cat so that people with allergies can have a cat of their own to love, care for and hold without becoming ill.

What a Cool Cat!

I have been a breeder/rescuer for these Russian breeds for almost a decade now. I have become very close with the breed and many breeders around the world. I have found these breed to be extremely above all the rest of the cats in the world. Their Personality is to DIE for! Always willing to please. Very Social with the ones they love and enjoy the daily visitor that may enter your home. The bond with other pets in your home well, being other cats, rats, birds or dogs.. They love everyone equally. They are very outgoing and love to play. What clowns they become with you take out their favorite toy or treat.. Speaking of treats... They love to eat, little piggies we call them.. They have to have a higher fiber and protein diet to keep them very healthy and active. So home-made foods along with daily bowl of dry bag food are best to give them everything they need to live a long and loving life style. {I send home a easy to understand booklet all about a great diet for them in every kittens take home package.} Since some these cats have little to no hair they have a high body temperature, you can feel the heat come off of them. I don't use a blanket in winter time here. I rap a couple of kitties around me and a deep warm sleep we have. You need to set up a warming station for them to retreat to when your not around to keep them warm. A covered cat bed with a fluffy blanket works the best. They will cover up when cold or just hang out there to keep the purrfect temp. they need to be..

I have my Dossows breed registered with the Rare and Exotic Feline Registry (North America) as the New breed of crazy hair type cats. All my kittens come with a birth cert. of Authenticity and a pedigree. These are Pets only, kitten/cats are not to be breeders or dragged around from cat show to cat show. By breeding my different breeds of cats together I have made a cat that is best of all worlds. Loving, fun, caring, active, pleasing and really cool looking. If your looking for a great pet and something that is out of this world, {little Alien} than the Dossow is the cat for you!
