The Japanese Bobtail Cat
 |
Character: Affectionate by nature and makes an ideal family

suited to indoor life.
Care: Light daily brushing.

The Japanese Bobtail was imported into the United States in 1968
even though the breed had been in Japan for centuries. In 1976 the
Bobtail received championship recognition. This breed was only
known as a shorthair but a longhaired version originated and in
1993 was recognized for show.
The Japanese Bobtail is an elegant cat with a medium sized body
set on thin long legs. The back legs are longer than the front
legs and have a deep bend. When the Bobtail is standing you will
notice the bend which is a natural feature of this cat. Another
very definite feature is the unusual short tail which for show
purposes must have at least one kink, curve, or an angle. The tail
will correspond with the cats body, either upwards or close to the
body, flexible or rigid.
The coat of the Bobtail is soft and of medium length. There is no
undercoat. This cat exhibits very little shedding. Grooming is a
light daily combing or brushing.
The only colors you will not see on the Japanese Bobtail is solid
lilac, chocolate and colorpointed. "Mi-ke" (mee-kay) is found to
be most popular. This is the white with red and black patches.
This is also known in the United States as calico.
This is a very smart cat. It is active and also talkative. The
Bobtail has a soft voice and it is said it will talk back when
spoken to. This cat is very good with children and loves to be
with humans.
