Behind the Scenes Hospital Tours in aid of VETERINARY NURSES MONTH JULY 2010

Book a “behind the scenes” hospital tour during the month of July at the Joburg Zoo Veterinary Hospital at a cost of only R50,00.

Entrance to the Zoo included!

Find out what a Veterinary Nurse does and at the same time help to raise funds for much-needed equipment for the hospital.

See our facilities, meet our patients and get to touch some of our friendly critters.

Questions will be answered as far as possible and advice will be given regarding husbandry and diets of exotic animals, as well as the legal requirements of owning indigenous animals.

Tours will run Tuesdays to Saturdays – currently scheduled for 10h00, but afternoon tours will be added if there is sufficient demand!

Unfortunately we do not seem to move magazines or OLD fiction (we hope we do not sound like Book Snobs but novels published before 2004 do not sell at our sale).

We are very fortunate to be able to offer the book loving public a very different Charity Book Sale

The type of donations we ask for are the types of books you will find in 2nd hand Book Shops.

Dear Fur Free members and other supporters,

Please could you let us know urgently whether you will be joining us this Saturday the 17th in taking a stand for the 91 000 seals (85 000 of them nursing pups!!!!) that are being slaughtered in Namibia as you read this.

INVITE YOUR FRIENDS TOO – we need to make this HUGE for the seals!!!

We will be meeting 11:00-13:00 on the islands in front of the Hyde Park shopping centre in Hyde Park, Joburg, at the intersection of William Nicol and Jan Smuts.

This is the same venue where the PETA anti-fur 'flag' event was held last Thursday, but this will be completely different. We will be presenting mime scenarios in which some people (wearing white/beige clothes that will be spattered with 'blood') will be crouching on the ground holding seal cut-outs in front of/above them, while others will be 'clubbing' the 'seals' with (light-weight) 'clubs'.

We still need the following:

1 People willing to act as 'seals'. You will need to wear your own white/beige clothes, that will be spattered with red water-based paint. You will need to come to the house in Craighall Park at 09:00 – see attached map. (The house is within walking distance of Hyde Park, so you could leave your cars at the house and walk down the street together!)

2 People to come and help 'paint' the 'seals' beforehand at the house (see attached map). It will require no artistic talent, and will mainly entail spattering the 'seals' with red paint.

For those not taking part in the mime, please wear only black or brown clothing or Fur Free Ts, and bring your own placards. Here are some slogans you could use for your placards:

- Stop the cruellest hunt in the world!
- Stop the seal massacre!
- 91 000 seals cruelly bludgeoned to death!
- Namibia is breaking its own laws!
- Boycott Namibia!
- Cruel death for nursing pups!
- Only Namibia slaughters nursing pups!
- The latest look shouldn’t kill!
- Seal – Blood – Diamonds!
- Nursing pups killed for their FUR!
- Stop the cruel seal fur trade!

Lastly, keep the following in mind during the protest:

• Obey all municipal regulations. (If we don’t, we may not be given permission to protest again.)
• Don’t harass anyone, don’t damage or deface property.
• Stay in the allocated area.
• Do not disrupt traffic.
• Be polite and reasonable at all times.

We are fighting a just cause – we don’t need to insult anyone or become emotional!
