Hillside Haven – Cat Tales 2012
Anyone involved in animal work will tell you that “the holidays” mean nothing to animals or rescue work! Hillside Haven’s activities carried on as normal over December and January. We assisted in the homing of several cats and kittens over this period. While setting up our stand at Essenwood Market one Saturday, the car guard came up to my husband holding a washing powder bucket with a brick on top of it. He said he had a kitten that he was selling for R200. He said it was very sick. On investigating, Sam found a very dehydrated kitten riddled with fleas, rather bewildered after its long journey to the market by taxi. With help from Lynne Goodman, they managed to negotiate him down to R20, explaining that the kitten would not be easy to home, people don’t buy kittens as there are just too many of them looking for homes and that mom would need to be brought in the following week to be spayed…
