Letters: Lindy van Driel – My cat was also shot

| December 29, 2011

Having written a letter to the Tygerburger and to the Tabletalk newspapers over the past few weeks, it was Mariana Booth who referred me to this website, she has also posted a letter on this site with a similar experience. I have posted a comment under your Web Forum section but thought a letter might help too. Here is my story:

During the early hours of Saturday morning (8th April) in Kleinbosch (northern suburbs of Cape Town off Plattekloof Road) my beautiful blue eyed white cat, Rabby, was shot in the mouth with what appears to be a pellet/air gun, someone who knows guns thought it might be from a .22. Her palate was cracked, her teeth were knocked out and her jaw completely shattered. She came into the house with blood seeping from her mouth, we rushed her to the all night animal clinic and unfortunately she could not be saved and was put to sleep.

I have posted flyers to all our Kleinbosch neighbours, I have reported it to the SPCA, I have written to the newspapers and even tried to put in a report with the Bothasig Police, but as I do not have a suspect, they say its pointless opening a case. What person/s would do such a thing? Is it a great sport to take a gun and shoot living animals, then run away thinking you have achieved something great? I have had questions asked about my cat, was she a trouble maker, was she somewhere where she shouldnt have been? For crying out loud!!!!! Is that a reason to shoot it??

Would anyone who has had similar experiences around this area please email me, as i do believe with public following, we can create awareness.
